Greggs has launched a vegan sausage roll.
The bakery, which sells 1.5m sausage rolls a week, has launched the meat- and dairy-free version so that the 3.5m vegans in the UK can also have the pastry snack.
It features 96 layers of puff pastry and the traditional pork has been replaced with a bespoke Quorn filling.
The vegan sausage roll is now on sale in 950 Greggs stores around the UK and costs £1.
“Like many food retailers we have seen increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan products,” says Greggs chief executive Roger Whiteside. “We have been trying to develop a Vegan version of our famous sausage roll for some time now. It has not been easy but our taste panel customers all love this one, so we have decided to launch it as our contribution to Veganuary.”
