Outlets offering takeaway and delivery can still operate

The government yesterday stepped up measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, saying that all non-essential premises must now close. However, takeaway and delivery services are allowed to remain open and operational, as are cafés, including workplace canteens, and restaurants that offer these options.

This means that people can continue to enter premises to access takeaway services, including delivery drivers. Planning regulation will be changed to enable cafés, restaurants and pubs that do not currently offer delivery and hot food takeaway to do so. Customers, however, must not consumer food or drinks on site while waiting. Also, venues offering takeaway or delivery services must not include alcoholic beverages in this list if their license does not already permit it.
