Deliveroo customers donate 2m meals

Deliveroo customers have raised funds for more than 2m meals and vital support for food banks in the Trussell Trust network nationwide, only 10 months after launching the partnership. In addition to providing meals, the donations have also helped fund vital support programmes that help people attending food banks to maximise their incomes and break free of poverty.

Donations from Londoners alone provided 1m meals to Trussell Trust food banks across the capital, while funds raised in Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh provided over 40,000 meals from each city. Generous customers were able to donate by either rounding-up their in-app food orders or making a donation at the check-out.

The funds raised provide emergency food parcels that contain at least three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced meals, as well as practical support and advice to people who are struggling to make ends meet. Deliveroo employees have also been taking part in food drives and volunteering for the charity at local Trussell Trust food banks.

Will Shu, founder and chief executive officer of Deliveroo, said: “When I started Deliveroo 10 years ago, I wanted to create a place that people turn to whenever they think about food, and a place to bring people together through food. Over the past decade we’ve worked hard to be a force for good and I want to thank all of our generous Deliveroo customers, who – together with our amazing restaurant and grocery partners, and our network of riders – are helping to put food on the table for people across the UK.”
