Energy bills a concern for many

Energy costs remain a concern for businesses, according to research of OOH readers for Smart Energy GB.  From those surveyed, three fifths (61%) business owners in the hospitality sector say they are worried about their energy bills and 44% do not feel in control of their energy costs.

Victoria Bacon, Smart Energy GB, says: “The economic climate has put small businesses under a huge amount of pressure in recent years and this research shows energy bills are still front of mind for many owners.  Getting a smart meter is one small thing small businesses owners can do, as it can help them monitor their energy usage and identify where they can make changes, as well as keep a closer eye on cashflow.”

According to the research, business owners are focused on green issues, with 73% saying sustainability is important to their business.  Additionally, two thirds (66%) of those polled say they are aware of the role smart meters are playing in Great Britain’s new smart energy system.

Victoria Bacon added: “The information provided by smart meters can help business owners understand and reduce energy waste, which can have a positive impact on the environment, make their businesses more eco-friendly, as well as helping them to save money.”
