Greggs and Too Good to Go save five million meals from the bin

Greggs has reached a milestone of five million Too Good To Go ‘Surprise Bags’ saved

Greggs and Too Good To Go have announced that they have successfully prevented more than five million meals from going to waste across the UK, making a remarkable impact when it comes to reducing food waste.

Greggs partnered with Too Good To Go in 2021 and surplus food can be rescued from more than 2,000 of their shops across the UK.

Each bag contains quality food nearing its sell-by date, available at a reduced price. Customers simply download the Too Good To Go app, search for their nearest Greggs store, reserve Surprise Bags, and pick them up at a preset time.

Through saving five million Surprise Bags of surplus food from going to waste, Greggs and Too Good To Go have collectively helped to avoid the equivalent CO2e emissions that it takes to fly around the world 2,346 times.

As the partnership continues to grow, Greggs and Too Good To Go are exploring new ways to help save even more great food from going to waste, with an exciting new Surprise Bag trial starting at the end of May, in select locations across the East of England.

The collaboration also supports their Greggs Pledge, the company’s own sustainability plan, of which one commitment is to reduce food surplus by 25 per cent compared to 2018 levels. Too Good To Go users can expect to find a wide range of Greggs favourites in each Surprise Bag, from the iconic Sausage Roll to delicious freshly prepared sandwiches and sweet treats.
