KFC funds litter picking heroes

KFC is acting on its biggest pledge yet, to support local litter-picking heroes for Keep Britain Tidy's Great British Spring Clean. The fried chicken brand has pledged to provide equipment to thousands of litter-pickers to help clean up local communities.

It is urging people across the country to apply to a scheme being offered in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy. Vouchers, which can be accessed by groups and individuals via the Keep Britain Tidy website, can be exchanged for litter-picking equipment.

To mark the Great British Spring Clean, KFC team members from across 600 of its UK restaurants will be joining in and doing their bit to clean up their local areas. A record 3,000 KFC staff are lined up to take part in this year’s initiative to collect more than 20,000 bags of litter, supported by local groups and local councillors.

Jenny Packwood, chief corporate affairs and sustainability officer for KFC, said: “Tackling litter isn’t just a one-day pledge; we need to change our lifestyles and habits throughout the year. We are committed to continuing to play our part, and we are calling on local councils and businesses to also support litter-picking groups and help toss the nation’s litter problem in the dustbin once and for all.”

Allison Ogden-Newton, chief executive officer of Keep Britain Tidy, added: “We are delighted that KFC has joined forces with Keep Britain Tidy for a third year to support the Great British Spring Clean and see the benefits of a business absolutely dedicated to making a practical, tangible difference to litter in the communities they serve. This partnership demonstrates what a business can do when they engage with – and listen to – those who care about litter.”
