We say:
As regular readers will know, ‘as regular readers will know’ is an incredibly easy/hack way to start an article of this kind… and as regular readers will also know, Bad Boy Pizza Society sliced up the competition to be win the main prize at the 2022 National Pizza Awards, which we held alongside our sister publication Dine Out last November.

These pizza purveyors trade from a couple of capital locations – but you’ll have to head to their National Theatre outlet if you want to sample their prevailing pie. It, however, sits on the Southbank right next to Waterloo Bridge, along with outdoor seating, a bar and two other street food traders – so it’s definitely worth seeking out, especially on a sunny day.

Getting to the food, it’s rare that the dough is the star of the show, but this (extremely) deep dish distinguished itself at the awards due, in part, to its not inconsiderable base. And once again it proves to be well worth the wait, providing a satisfyingly chewy texture, as well as additional flavour and good value for money. The big cheeses also shot to the top due to their spicy vodka tomato sauce, which really cuts through, with the pepperoni left to provide the requisite crunch.

I’d love to be able to report back on the sides – mozzarella sticks and dough balls (£5 each) – but they were both sadly sold out. However, when it comes to the main event, this dish of considerable depth deserves anything but a panning.

Should you believe the hype?
This award-winning deep dish is anything but base-ic.
